==========================================>

The big news that I picked up this morning from the World Media, is that the FIM have banned the use of all Helmet Mounted cameras ( plus chest mounted) for any sanctioned event. -Until further notice -  This follows the possible link to the Michael Schumacher skiing injury. -  It does state that cameras can still be mounted on the bikes, so I imagine that lots more development will be done in this area.

Anybody that saw the video of Jonny Walker at the Gettsberg Enduro - will appreciate the speed that this new breed of riders are bringing to the sport - zipping through the trees & picking lines that their Trials riding background has obviously helped them - all captured by a “Go Pro” helmet camera.  Amazing video.
Of course this will mean a big curtailment to the coverage we will see from events such as the ISDE next week, and Super Cross etc.
===========================================>

Naturally, this has to be a huge concern for companies like “Go Pro” who have based their business on these helmet-cams. - But it does tend to make sense, as helmet manufacturers state in their warranty material, that you should not even put stickers on your helmet. - I remember there was some talk about this back in the 1970’s, when many riders (including myself) used a bolt on “Iron Jaw” to our open face helmets, rather than wear full face models, which at the time were very confining and hot for Cross Country racing.

===========================================>

Yesterday, we had a nice surprise visit from Tino Marin and his girlfriend, who were on route to Vancouver for the weekend - they had never traveled out West, and as Tino had a few days off from his job, working on tele- communication  towers, they decided to drive out and see some of the Country - We had a really good chat about the Trials scene in Canada, which of course is quite different and small compared to Spain. - Before coming to Canada, Tino always rode Beta Trials bikes, and explained how the system worked over in that Country, with many riders getting financial help. - However he also mentioned that motorcycle sales in general, have dropped dramatically over the past few years, with Mountain bikes taking over some of the market, due to land use problems.

===========================================>

As I mentioned yesterday, Sam King has been nominated for a “Young Citizen’s Award” in Australia - and his employer has been in touch with me to forward pics etc from his visit over here this year. - It seems that Sam’s housing problems have now been resolved, and he is back working at his job as a plumber’s apprentice, outside Melbourne.

============================================>

I see that Ted Blow is putting on a Junior Trials school at Ioco this Sunday - it will cover, bike set up and basic techniques,as well as laying out practice sections etc. - 11am is the time ( Don’t forget to put your clocks back one hour tomorrow night)

Jesse Groemm

It’s official! Beta USA announced today the signing of Jesse Groemm for the 2015 and 2016 seasons. Groemm, who finished second overall in the 2014 Kenda AMA National Enduro Series, will compete in the GNCCs on a Factory Beta 250 RR in the XC2 class and in the National Enduros on a Factory Beta 300 RR.

“The past three years racing National Enduros,” says Groemm. “I’ve learned a ton about racing at a professional level and I’ve learned some valuable life lessons. My goals have been to win a championship and earn a Factory Ride. I’m excited to say I’m riding for Factory Beta in 2015 and 2016; I’m thankful for this great opportunity and I can’t wait to put a Beta on the podium!”

Groemm is considered on of the pre-season favorites in the national enduro series heading into the 2015 season, after landing on the podium three times in 2014 and winning the Rattlesnake National Enduro in Pennsylvania

=========================================>

Taddy Blazusiak is going Flat-Tracking - he will rub elbows with the likes of World Road Race champ Marc Marquez at the Barcelona event in December - He says he watched it last year, and just knew he had to give it a go - he will be mounted on a KTM 350.

The UK Dirt bike show opened today - and here is a pic of John Lampkin on the Beta UK stand, showing off one of the new electric mini-bikes

These will be limited supply and in big demand, so if you want one better get in touch with me quickly.

==========================================================>

The big news today, is that effective November 1st, (Saturday) Mountain Motorcycle of Coquitlam, will cease to be the Beta Importer for Canada, after 31 years. - The Brand will now be handled by Beta Canada, which is based in New Brunswick. - I would like to say that having dealt with the Clark family since 1993 as a dealer for - Beta, Gas Gas and Sherco - It has always been a really good working relationship.

Don Clark, first called me in October 1993, asking how I was getting on with the new Yamaha TYZ - I can’t put my answer in print, but suffice to say that a couple of days later, I was a Mountain Motorcycle dealer. -

I always got on well with Don, and got to know his boys, Bob and Brett, who over the years have been a big help to me, and of course they continue to ride Trials and be very involved with the CPTA.
When Don passed away, it was both a sad time and a big challenge for the family, but Bob and Janis, soon had everything running smoothly, with a parts back-up service, that is in my opinion the best in the Industry ( I say this having worked for Yamaha Canada for ten years)

Although change is perhaps a good thing, I will miss the friendly business relationship, that existed between Outlaw and Mountain - from the Importer/dealer aspect - I do However, have every confidence that the new owner Steve Howland, will bring both new ideas and energy to the Italian brand, especially in regard to the Enduro market. -

I have met Steve, and think the change over, will go smoothly, but as always, we ask our customers for patience, and promise to continue providing the very best service to the Beta line in Canada.

==============================================>

UPDATE: - Just checked the CPTA site for results of the Oct 19th Trial - Beta riders did very well - 1-2-3 Expert - 1st Adv - 1-2 Snr Adv.  -

==============================================>

We have heard that  Sam King has been nominated for Young Citizen of the year award in Australia - hope the likable young guy gets the nod.

Sad news today that Len Hutty of England has died at the young age of 54 - Although I never met Len or saw him ride, his exploits on the big 4 stroke red-tanked Matchless have become legendary in UK Vintage Trials. - Our buddy Adrian often talked about him, as he was from the Southern Center .

===============================================>

It was an emotionally charged day yesterday for most Canadians, who watched the Funeral  of Corporal Nathan Cirillo from Hamilton - the playing of “Amazing Grace” by the pipe band was a touching tribute.

===============================================>

I now have Taff’s 1974 Bultaco 250 Sherpa T back in the shop, after Luke got it going - seems it was just an after market kill switch that was the problem - this bike is for sale, and comes with a spare engine ( in bits) - the bike is in awesome shape with original tires, bars, footpegs etc and a great buy for any lover of the old Bultacos.

Bultaco SherpaT 250

===============================================>

I have now also listed my 2014 Evo 200 for sale - only about 6-8 hours on the bike as I didn’t get it until late August. - a real bargain for somebody who wants a lightweight easy to start bike that will go up any hill that I’ve ever tried ( I’ve been promoting  the small bore bikes for years - but the Beta is the best model out there)

2014 Beta Evo 200

===============================================>

There is now snow high up on the Mountain tops, including some at Big White yesterday, but we are actually late seeing any winter like weather this year, and it could very well be another year when we are riding at Bear Creek in December - hopefully testing the new Beta

===============================================>

Yesterday, I was shipping out more parts across the Country - we supply parts and accessories for most Trials bikes, to customers from as far away as Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. - check out our website for Christmas specials or give us a call if you don’t see what you need listed.

===============================================>

The Hockey season is now going full tilt - and the Cannucks appear to be doing not too badly although how this will transpire into the “Play-Off’s”  - is anybodies guess - I watched an Oilers game the other night - or at least part of it - they were leading 2-0 when I switched over - no doubt Taff was there with rink-side seats.

It’s that time of the year when kicking back and watching a Trials video is the way to solve some of the cabin fever, for many riders - I will be placing an order with Trial Mag: UK for two of the very best from 2014 - The British Championships and the Scott Trial, - If anybody wants to add their name for these, please email - haven’t checked the price, but like they say, if you have to ask -you can’t afford it.

================================================>

We are getting into the “Show Season” - with the UK Dirt bike show this weekend followed by the huge Milan Show next week - Watch for lots of pics from Milan - where a couple of new Trials models will be unveiled  - including Jordi’s latest creation - but all I’ve seen posted on facebook by the 7 times Trials Champ for the past few months has been pics of his favorite food dishes.

================================================>

All the Teams are in Argentina for the ISDE which takes place next week - first reports say the weather is really hot - local gal Victoria Hett, will be going for a medal, so we wish her luck.

================================================>

The movie “On Any Sunday Two” will be hitting the big screens next month, and we have a small connection to this, as our buddy Lee Usher from Nelson - who is the Oset dealer, was invited to the Hollywood Premier, with his family, and they got to meet some of the great people in the Motorcycle World - Lee’s youngsters, are shown at the start of the movie, riding their Oset electric bikes through the woods, followed by Lee on his Beta - a great way to introduce the family side of the sport.

The answer to the quiz yesterday is John Surtees. - Only Harlow Rankin posted the correct response.

Wales to host Heads of the Valleys two-day extreme enduro in December…
Heads of the Valley’s is set to raise the bar in Extreme Enduro in the UK, with a format that will see a proper hard enduro course covering 20 miles of forest terrain, and a world rally car stage for bikes to qualify for the main event.The idea originated from two riders who are truly passionate about the sport, Paul Edmondson and Nick Plumb have teamed up together to offer riders a complete new event at one of the UK’s ideal venues for the job.

Walter’s arena home to Dawn to Dusk will play host to this maiden event on December 13th and 14th 2014. The plan is to create a cross between the famous Erzberg event (Saturday) and Sunday’s main event replicating an old school extreme race similar to that of the Giles Lalay Classic an event which Fast Eddy competed in way back in the early 90’s.

HOVLARGE

Paul Edmondson: “My goal was always to run a big lap extreme event where riders are challenged by a long natural course. The venue has it all and along with Nick’s help I know we can make the best extreme event the UK has ever seen. The work starts next week and I’m looking forward to putting all my experience into the event”.

This will also mark the start of the 2015 ACU Extreme Enduro Championship which has been organised by Fast Eddy Racing for the past 4 years, a series which has grown and seen the UK and the world’s best extreme riders all racing together.

The event is open to all riders and Saturday will also see rally style bikes compete head to head in the eight mile forest stage.

A quick check out the front window this morning, and I see ice on the bird bath - the first for this Fall, and of course a sign of things to come - Craig Madlung posted a pic from Revy, where the boys were up into the snow-line yesterday -and the snow tires will go on the car this week.

All I did yesterday, was watch some of the Moto GP on the box, before going out to the shop to clean up my Evo 200 - this is now for sale, and only has about eight hours on it, call me if you are interested - I will take some pics of this little beauty later today.

Turk emailed from Oklahoma, to say that he got a Gold Medal at the ISDE reunion this past weekend - he also won his class -  he said the event was pretty fast compared to the Terra Nova.

I see the Ontario Vintage Trials club had 34 riders at their event on Sunday - a really good turn-out, with a mixture of old Buls and Ossas plus a few TY’s - they also had a class for modern bikes.

It appears that the high cost of racing, has caught up with a couple of the Formula One Teams, and both Marrusia and Caterham have filed for bankruptcy protection in the UK.

Nearly 82,000 fans braved the searing Malaysian heat and watched history being made as Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez overcame a ragged start and then a great skirmish with the Yamaha riders of Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo to score his 12th victory of the season. That equaled the record of 12 wins in a season set by Mick Doohan in 1997. Rossi, after leading major portions of the 20-lap race and battling mightily with Marquez, finally fell off the pace late and crossed the line second, 2.445 seconds behind the winner. Lorenzo rounded out the podium finishers in third, 3.5 seconds behind Marquez.

The rain is hammering down this morning in Vernon, so I will not be going out riding - not that I mind the wet weather so much, but something else has come up as well, that I need to attend to.

===============================================>

The WTC have decided to go ahead with a mini electric bike class at our events in 2015, to encourage the kids to get more involved in the competition aspect - the idea will be to have two separate classes to accommodate  the two different engine sizes currently available, with the sections being around the camp site, similar to what we did at some of our events this year.

In addition to this, the Outlaw Series, will have a class for air-cooled, drum brake mono-shock machines, which will run on the same day as the Vintage event.  - Further details will be announced later.

==================================================>

As mentioned yesterday, the Trials Canada site has been hit by spammers, and I noticed today that this site has also had a bunch of posts that needed to be deleted.

==================================================>

Graham Jarvis took yet another win at the Getzen Rodeo Extreme Enduro - Ben Hemmingway brought his Beta in a good 5th spot.

It was just one week ago - that the Scott Trial took place in Yorkshire, and while there was the usual hype about the event, with a ton of pics and video - perhaps more should have been posted about the group of Vet riders, including multi time World Champ Yrgo Vesterinen , who rode vintage bikes around to raise money for charity - they did extremely well at the event, plus they collected 4000 pounds (approx $7200.00)

VETERAN RIDERS: Cameron Mackenzie, Mark Willis, Glen Scholey, Joe Buckworth, Nigel Mackenzie, Yrjo Vesterinen and Trevor Willans. Photo: Neil Sturgeon Photography .

I see that the Victoria Club have a Trial scheduled for tomorrow - the poster is on the front page of Trials Canada  -  Bob Johns  also reports that his forum is down to to spammers, hacking the threads.

===========================================================>

Not sure what’s happening tomorrow as regards to a ride - waiting to hear from Matt. - maybe we will go up on the hill.
===========================================================>

Marris posted this chilly reminder that winter is getting closer - especially in the North Country - the boys in Fort Mac will be trying to get a few more rides in on the Betas before the snow gets too deep.

No news in yet from the Scott Trial in Yorkshire - but here is a neat pic taken at the event of a rider on one of the original Scott motorcycles, which were used when the Famous Time Trial was started 100 years ago. - My Dad owned one of these machines, which featured a water cooled two stroke twin engine - they were called “The Flying Squirrel” No doubt there is a lot of Nostalgia at the event this weekend.

UPDATE : Still no results - but Gerald Richardson (Beta) was first home - so may be fastest on time  & he has won it before. - Here is a pic of Ben Hemmingway, (Beta)  thanks to Sue Goddard

BREAKING NEWSJAMES DABILL (BETA) HAS WON THE 2014 SCOTT TRIAL - BEATING OUT MICHAEL BROWN (GG) and DOUGIE LAMPKIN (Vertigo/GG) - 4 of the top 6 were on Beta machines - Hard Enduro Super-star Jonny Walker finished 25th

=================================================>

In Moto GP News - the Marquez brothers captured pole position in both their classes - Cal Crutchlow pulled off a great season ender, and with start on the front row - good to see as he has had a miserable season with Ducati, and moves to a private Honda Team in 2015.

==================================================>

Yesterday, I did a trip up to the North end of the Valley, calling in Sicamous to chat with Kevin, who is still raving about the Beta RR 250 - then a lunch stop with Fearless Freddie near Salmon Arm - He owned the Honda Power products dealership in town for many years, and still uses my Opti 2 mix oil in his Ultra-lite. - After that it was on to Sorrento, to visit with Dean - dropped off some stuff at his place and talked about our Trials season.

==================================================>

I see some of the lads are going to OK Falls again tomorrow, to do the final clean up, plus get some riding in - I think they are meeting at the campground at 10.30am.

==================================================>

My elder brother and his wife are visiting their son (my nephew) in New York, and they are shown here at Robbie’s Scooter shop - brother Don, who is now 81, sits astride an old Moto Guzzi.

Marc Marquez has already clinched the Moto GP World Title, but will still be going for the win in Australia this weekend, However it’s Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo (below) who tops the charts in practice so far today.

==============================================>

The CPTA have a Trial on at Ioco this Sunday, and have posted that there will be a special beginner’s class - this is a great idea to encourage new riders to try the sport, with lots of help from the more experienced club members.

==============================================>

A correction from yesterday > I said that Chris was attending an Endurocross in Vegas this weekend - turns out this is the first round of the Super-Cross Series - the Enduro riders will be heading to Everett Washington for the usual bash around the rocks & logs, on Saturday night.

I will be tuned into the box to watch the SX - some rider/team changes this year should make things interesting

While most of the top Trials riders have already signed the dotted line for 2015 - the two Brits, who have not ( as yet) are James Dabill and Michael Brown - we could see a change over here. - Dabill on Gasser & Brown back on Beta.

This morning I saw  a video of another young European Trials rider - jumping from rock to rock on the back wheel  - really clever and obviously very talented - but it does raise the question  - When will the FIM bring in a rule saying that riders have to actually “Ride the bikes”
==============================================>

VERTIGO ANNOUNCES OFFICIAL WORLD LAUNCH

Vertigo Motors is delighted to announce the official World launch of their new Trial model at the famous EICMA motorcycle exhibition to be held in Milan, Italy from 6th to 9th November 2014.

The new Spanish manufacturer will unveil two versions of its much-anticipated Vertigo Combat Trial model – Camo and Ice Hell – to the media and public after many months of planning, development and testing behind closed doors at its headquarters in Barcelona and in a private location in the Spanish mountains.

==============================================>

The word we get from our European spies - is that the guy heading up the Vertigo project, is a very, wealthy man, and  is not out to sell a ton of these bikes - he just wants to build one that he thinks is better than the rest.- And have Dougie Lampkin showcase it.
Of course the other  much talked about new model is the TRS - another Jordi Tarres idea, backed by more very rich enthusiasts - the European Trials market has long been known for small factories operating on government funds & grants, but few have lasted long term. - Remember, Bultaco, Ossa, Montesa, Italjet, Garrelli, Merlin,  JCM, SWM, Aprilia, etc etc - ( there are loads more) - and while a few have been re-introduced under a new company - the numbers are so small - that in the end, the dollars and “Sense” - don’t add up.

However, having said that - I still like to see the new ideas, but would have to think very carefully before getting involved with any new factory - I like the fact that Beta has been around for ever, and when I want parts - they are supplied next day.

ENJOY YOUR BETA WEEKEND>

Thursday, October 16th, 2014

Yesterday, I made a trip into town, and dropped off the $630.00 at the Cancer Society Office. - I met with one of the very  pleasant Volunteer Ladies, and we chatted about Adrian, and why we host the Ady Brown Trial every year, - she asked if it was OK to put up the Certificate that we made up for all the participants, which was  a nice gesture, I’m sure Ady would appreciate that.

============================================>

Here is a neat pic from Beta Treuba - showing a display of older vintage Beta Trials bikes - the TR 34 in the front and center was the model that took Jordi to his first World title - we have good memories of all these models.

The pic was taken at the Big Festival put on by the Beta Factory, where over 400 people were given the chance to try out both Trials and Enduro bikes. http://enduro21.com/index.php/component/k2/item/2196-beta-fest-2014.
================================================>

While there are still some high profile events taking place around the world this weekend, I see that the Edmonton Snowmobile Show starts tomorrow, a sure sign that winter is not too far away - However, for Trials enthusiasts, all eyes will be on the Scott Time & Observation Trial, which runs for the 100th time on Saturday. - There are a number of top riders, who could take this one, including multi time  winner Dougie Lampkin - it needs a special talent and a lot of luck to get your name on this Trophy.

================================================>

I heard from Chris Hrabb, who says his ankle is now out of the cast, so he is going down to Vegas this weekend,  to watch the Enduro-cross  - Also got a call from Jimmy, who told me he managed to get out for a ride with some enduro buddies last weekend - they were quite surprised that he had no trouble keeping up.

================================================>

The Moto GP Teams are all in Australia this weekend - with the Marquez brothers getting most of the attention, but also Jack Miller, the local Moto 2 rider, who has been leading this class.

================================================>
