We  have been asked how long it takes to switch the TRS Xtrack from one mode to the other - well today we timed it, and you can see on our Seiko clock ( my award from Yamaha for 10 yrs service) I forgot a couple of things so likely could shave a good ten minutes off this time.

Saw this pic posted of a 1955 James 197 Captain - I had one of these brand new as my first bike - it was my pride and joy as a young lad and I rode it everywhere - followed Trials events over muddy moors - but soon sold it for a full James Competition model called the Cotswold. - And as they say that is how it all began. ( I don’t remember my bike having the plug wire hanging down like that)

So Wednesday, I drove up to the Shuswap to drop off Trials stuff for Ross - as I don’t do a lot of driving these days,  I  quite enjoyed it - first stopping off in Armstrong to mail off parts to an Alberta customer - (did you know that by doing it this way - the packages go via Kamloops - otherwise mail from Vernon, goes  to Vancouver !! ) even if it’s for a customer in the Valley .

Leaving Armstrong , I headed West - over the lovely country roads surrounded by farm land - places that perhaps only the locals know about. - After dropping down into the Yankee Flats area  - I took the short cut over the top to avoid the very twisty Silver Creek road , before connecting with the main Hiway West of Salmon Arm. ( It will be nice when they get that intersection sorted)
To say that the weather  is a bit “changeable” this year is perhaps an understatement - Wednesday was a a day of driving in rain and sunshine - but later we had a big windstorm in the Vernon area.

My visit with Ross went well at his worksite located at the Captain’s Village Marina, - He has been building some stuff for this huge boat business -Ironically I sold the owner of this a Sherco 4T back a few years - I told him that if he could start it - we had a deal - believe it or not, the bike started  first kick - the ONLY time it ever did that.

Looking ahead to the weekend - we obviously don’t know at this point who will show up - talking to Ross today - he says that while he thought maybe of not doing it - but  he likes both the sport and the people. - Perhaps that is why the Outlaw Trial has lasted so many years. - All our Trials family, should be grateful  for anybody that  hosts  a Trials event  - It takes an unbelievable effort all on a voluntary basis .

UPDATE : WE WILL HAVE A VINTAGE CLASS  - THIS WILL LIKELY RUN LATE SATURDAY - MORE INFO AT THE RIDERS MEETING.

We received the results of the Squamish Trial from Don Doerksen - looks like they had quite a few DNF’s likely due to the weather - the biggest class was the Inter - with 11 riders ( all finished) followed by the Snr Inter - with 10 (all finished) - If you are interested in seeing the full results you can either go on the CPTA website or email me - Sean Bird (Scorpa) cleaned up in Expert.

UPDATE - Scotch Creek is situated on the North end of Shuswap Lake - If driving from the Salmon Arm area - turn across the bridge after you go through Sorrento then follow the road all the way around the Lake - drive straight through Scotch Creek and Celista - You will see a sign for Magna Bay !! turn right  at the bottom of the hill - there will be a sign on the corner.

We have heard that the Squamish Trial went well  in very wet conditions, with Sean Bird winning the Expert class - check the CPTA website for full results.

It seems the 2022 Factory Betas will be shipped next month - lots of delays and a shortage of bikes this year - most of these are presold.

The Wulf Trials boots have been flying out the door this past couple of months and our stock is short a few sizes, however the good news is that we get unbelievable service from the UK with shipments only taking 4 days. - We will be taking some Helmets, Boots, clothing - gloves etc to the Trial - but if you have need of something  specific - email before Friday.

As this is the first Trial for sometime due to the covid restrictions   - the class structure might be a tad different - if you are planning on bringing your vintage bike - we hope a separate class can be arranged for one of the days.( or evenings)  - We will check with Ross on this.

Sunday was a pretty dull day & still quite cool, with rain showers, so we elected to stay home - watched a new Scottish video just up on YouTube of Trotters Burn - looked to be very tricky at the base before the last big climb up the rock wall, and took a lot of fives ( including Stan)- I don’t remember it being that difficult when I watched from that point a few years ago, but obviously the water has eroded some of the narrow approach.

Dougie of course cleaned it, but I think the smoothest clean ride, was by Ben Hemmingway. - I think Emma got away with a dab.

Dave Butler was out on his very nice old Greeves at the Ontario Vintage Trial on Sunday.

I see that the Ontario club have a Trial today - they are using a preregister system and have 32 riders entered at last post.  - Nice to see more Trials being held after the long Covid shut down. - The Trials 99 group also have a Trial on today at Squamish.

Interesting to chat on the phone to Stan yesterday, and hear that they were pretty lax with things at the Scottish - no restrictions at the Trophy presentation, with a large group crammed into the hall. - He was a tad worried as the next day he had cold symptoms  - and was concerned he might get put in isolation in Glasgow - but everything turned out OK.

I’m sure he will have a lot of people wanting to hear about his Scottish adventures next weekend at the Outlaw Trial in the Shuswap. So far we appear to have a good crowd coming.

Jason was out for a ride on his new TRS - but didn’t expect this kind of weather - very rare for the month of May especially in the Penticton area.

The weather in the Valley and everywhere else seems to be much cooler this Spring - which is OK as far as we are concerned, after the Forest Fires last year. - We are hoping for nice sunny skies for the long weekend and the Outlaw Trial - we have heard back from a lot of people with some “Regulars” confirmed.

YES THAT IS NEXT WEEKEND !!!

I picked up the medals yesterday - first order for my Trophy gal for two years, so we had a good chat about the difficult time she has had because of the Covid, as most of her business is based on sports activities.

A reminder that although the awards next weekend, will only be given for the two day combined scores - some people may decide to just ride one day on a no award basis. - which is OK

Also remember - This year we have a Ladies class - - anybody that has seen video of Emma Bristow riding knows that the gals can also be very good.

Also please remember that Insurance for these events on Private property is not cheap by any means.

As mentioned before, the first ever Scramble that I attended was in 1955 on my brand new James street bike ( with a cute young lady on the back) - As I looked up the fearsome hill at Hawkstone Park, I really never thought anybody would make it up that hill. - So as this seemed to be a good place to watch we climbed to the top and waited !! - After the roar of the start down below, there was a bit of a lull, then all of a sudden the guy you see below(Geoff Ward)  shot up over the big rocky slabs at the top of the hill on this immaculate AJS - it looked like it had just come out of the showroom !!  We were totally amazed. Wow!! - I was hooked on the sport right then - but unfortunately, my excitement was short lived that day, as when we returned to the very large parking lot - we found somebody had nicked my brand new bike!! - Not a great start to my motorcycle career, but it only took a few months to replace both the bike and the girlfriend!!
