This was opening day of my local bike shop back in 1953 - I was there ogling at the new bikes .  Roy Evans was a former TT rider with a 3rd place finish one year on a Norton.

And this was the first motorcycle race that I spectated at in 1950 - the smell of the race fuel was a real stimulant !!! It was a Grass Track race near Oswestry, my hometown.

Nice shot of Taddy Blazusiuk  riding his last Hard Enduro -on the red KTM !!  next year he is contracted  to racing the regular World Enduro events against guys like Steve Holcombe and Brad  Freeman - Did you know that Taddy was a top World Trials rider, before flipping to Enduro?  Of course that is the case for most of the top riders at these Hard Enduro races.   - They learned how to go fast, by first learning to go slow. - The main reason ?  Money. - There is no money in Trials, unless you have a contract with Honda like Tony Bou. - Although Trystan Hart has never competed  in Canadian Trials, he has had a Trials bike   ( we sold him a Beta) and he has practiced with Sammy.  All those other stars began by riding Trials. - Did you know that Roger De Coster was the Trials Champion in Europe before switching to MX.?

The point being - if you want to succeed in Cross Country ( the hard stuff) buy a Trials bike !! ( from me !!)

Some interesting Trials info and comments just posted on FB
No description available.
(A Mike Rapley photo from Trials Guru site)
Event The first ever trial of the World Trials Championship.
Rider Alan (sid) Lampkin
Bike Factory 325 Bultaco
Location Bristol England
Event winner Dave Thorpe
1975 World Trials Champion H.M.Lampkin
These were tough but natural sections just look at the height difference between the spectators below and where sid has arrived at the top of this waterfall, both wheels against rock obstacles and fingers no where near the clutch.
Large entries from clubmen to the best in the world, one route to decide one champion.
Nothing silly or Dangerous in the days you could buy the same bike as the winner for around £500.
Long scenic route on the roads with a variety of section terrain.
What happened to this sport ??

Answer to the Saturday Quiz - Brian Stonebridge (Matchless) John Draper ( BSA) and Geoff Ward (AJS) - nobody got this.

A nice COOL morning - which bodes well for a chance to get out for a ride tomorrow.!!

=================================================>

Quite a few people responded to the quiz pic yesterday, which showed a Penton Trials bike - this was also imported into Canada, under the Wassel name -  - Here is a nice shot of the early days of Scrambling in the UK - can anybody name these British riders and bikes??

No description available.

=================================================>

Just got word that Babsy has arrived safely in the UK and will be staying in Oxford for a few days with her brother, before visiting our old home town in North Wales.

=================================================>

Below is a Beta Promo pic - but what I noticed is the great body position   of the rider and also where his feet are planted on the pegs - must be a Trials rider.

Yesterday we had the latest issue of Motorcycle Mojo Mag arrive in the letterbox - and while this is not a Trials Publication, the articles cover a lot of general aspects of Motorcycling, which many will find interesting - this issue has a write up on a Honda RC 30  owned by a chap in Bragg Creek Alberta - which will be a good read. - Also don’t forget that this is a Canadian Mag ( might be the only one now) plus our own Emily Roberts is a contributor, with great stories of her adventures.

Happening this weekend in Alberta. most of the top riders will be there. - Saturday they will run the Prologue in down-town Calgary !!! then it’s off to the badlands of Drumheller for the Sunday race. - Most of the top Hard Enduro World riders will be in for this, but most Canadians will be rooting for Invermere BC lad Trystan Hart.

Red Bull Outliers is a mass-start multi-discipline Hard Enduro competition for professional and amateur athletes.
The third edition of the event is included in the FIM Hard Enduro World Championship . The competition will span over two days on August 27-28 to truly showcase Canada’s largest Hard Enduro race in Calgary’s downtown core and the iconic Canadian Badlands. Each day will offer its own unique challenges with a custom closed obstacle track on the streets of Calgary and the technical terrain in the historical Badlands

Meanwhile the cooler mornings have encouraged some of our local riders to head out for a bit of Trials practice - here is a shot of new guy Glen on the Beta he just picked up.

Wednesday, August 24th, 2022

We just heard that Sean Bird had a crash while practicing and although we don’t know the details, he will not now be going to the TDN next month - a big blow to the Canadian Team. We will post further news when we hear from Michael Traves.

——————————————————————————
The other Canadian Team are now in France for the ISDE, and also have issues with lost luggage etc, but at least they are all there and ready for the event which goes next week.

This is a badge that we got after the ISDE in Wales 1983 - it really was quite a party. The  local Motel where we stayed in Brecon, gave the Team a real treat on the night after their great 2nd place finish in the Silver Vase - also winning the Watling Trophy.

This is a shot I took of UK rider Andy Huddleston, trying out the Outlaw TRS 125, in our backyard, when he was over for a holiday in Canada a few years ago. Andy used to be on the Hamilton Yamaha Team and we met him at the 1995 World Round at Hawkstone Park   UK.

We had quite a big thunderstorm last night in the Valley with a good downpour - hopefully the lightning did not cause too many fire issues ( will be checking the news later. )

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2022

Glad to say the early morning temperatures are getting much cooler although the heat of the day, is still restricting us to the house for most of the time.

Answer to the last quiz - the Trials Norton was called the 500T  model - yes big 500cc thumper with a rigid rear frame. - World Road Race Champion Geoff Duke rode one  in some Trials including (I think) the Scottish.

A few people got it correct - Harlow, John Kitch and a couple of the Ontario lads.

=========================================.>

I clicked onto the You Tube video of the World Round from Belgium yesterday - Have to say the sections looked a lot more “Normal” with some really steep loose climbs and tricky cambers. - here is a shot of Adam Raga on one - they had good weather and a big crowd.

No description available.

It was a full Beta podium in the 125 class - with the Hemmo bros finishing 1-2

An interesting shot of Honda Factory rider Tommi Ogawa, who the checker is still showing on a “Clean”

Flashback to 2017 and a promo pic of the new TRS 300 which we had Sammy King ride for us.  We got a call from Sam yesterday, who was looking for fork seals for his Beta Trials bikes that he uses in his shows, one of which is coming up at the Karl Custer Ranch pretty quick. ( Naturally we have all these parts in stock .)

Young Jamie Galloway continues to improve - finishing 4th at the World Trial in Belgium - It was once again a 1-2 finish for the Beta boys with Dan Hemmingway first and George 2nd.

Toni Bou was on top of the box again beating out Busto - Adam Raga failed to get on the podium at this event.

Quiz - Does anybody remember what the Norton Trials bike was called?

=================================================>

Here is a good shot by Kath Issler, of Trystan Hart “Bull-dogging” his KTM down a steep slope at the Maze Runner race in Alberta last weekend. - He finished 20 minutes ahead of the 2nd rider in the “Gold class.
