Sunday June 19th “Father’s Day”

I never really understood what all the hype was about Father’s Day - To me I thought being from the UK - that came nine months before Mother’s Day. !!!

Anyway - everybody over this side of the pond seems to like it - maybe another excuse for a celebration - but I must say we have enjoyed some good times in the past with our kids. The pic below was taken 5 years ago  with our Helen, on Father’s Day while having an evening out at the Vernon Lodge.

Today is also our son Steven’s birthday -  hard to believe he is 55 !! - Doesn’t seem long since I bought him his first mini bike - it  was a Yamaha 80 Stevie Baker Flat track replica built by Bob Work for Stevie to use as a “Pit Bike” during his World Championship tours. ( Wish we still had that!!)  After that it was a new YZ 80, followed by a TY 175 - then the XT 200 and lastly a new IT 175 - Unfortunately Steve got blinded in one eye in a Kelowna Cross Country race when leading the Junior class, and that was the end of his motorcycle career, he was just 15 years old, at the time.

Congrats to Adam Raga and young Jamie Galloway for taking the wins on Saturday in Andorra - Good results for both TRS and all the Brits who attended.

The Sections in Andorra are at a high altitude - very steep, so the 125cc bikes must have to work really hard - This pic of young Jamie Galloway shows one such steep section high up on the Mountain side. We wonder if his bike is fitted with the power valve,? -As many people know, I have always liked the small bore bikes, and brought in a TRS 125  about 3 years ago ( special order) because I thought it had a power valve -  as it turned out the cylinder was made to fit one, but they had not gone ahead at that time. - Obviously I was disappointed  but after riding the bike I was still impressed - we also brought in a Beta Evo 125 that year to do a shoot out between the two brands ( scroll back for my opinions)

Perhaps my love of the small capacity models, comes from seeing how these were so popular in Europe at the ISDE etc. - I do know that the very last Cross Country race that I ever rode, was on a YZ 125 -yes with a power valve and yes I won the Senior Class at the Danny Amor Memorial race in Kelowna - I guess I’m just a “Clutch guy” - But also small at 150 lbs.

The Europeans are master of these small capacity machines - I recall hearing 80cc  12 speed Kreidlers at the 1949 ISDT in Wales - unbelievable. - The East German MZ Team we saw at the 1983 ISDE in Wales were equally impressive.
Ironically in the old days, I always preferred a big bore bike - not because of the power, but because of the torque  - remember back then we never used the clutch ( they  were not that great) and with a big bore, I could often use a high gear to avoid losing traction in slippery sections. ( This still applies )

Today is the F1 race from Montreal a big deal for that City - and yes I will likely watch some of it  - but for me the magic went out for this a few years ago, when Lewis Hamilton tried to make it a Political statement.

Saturday I watched the Golf - The US open is proving to be a real challenge for many of the established stars of the game - must be very frustrating ( jut like Trials)

Finally today - we show a pic sent to us by Lisa  Rae from Sechelt - she will be riding her first ever Trial today at Ioco - we hope she has fun on her new TRS.
