Stan mentioned some details re the Scottish when Ryon Bell did so great – it was in 1983 when Gasser had that imfamous leaky airbox that had all their riders ( including Ryon and Christy Williams) spending a lot of time drying out the bikes on the moors – because of this, Ryon did not walk any sections – just rode them because of the time factor. – The amazing thing was that he only lost one point all day!!! – The best day Stan ever had was with a score of 8 – but on that particular day Eddie Lejeune, lost only 4!! – Now when you consider ( you have to have been to the Scottish to appreciate this) riders do 100 miles per day with 30 odd sections per day !! these scores really are incredible. – ( Note ! we were still selling Gassers at that time, but rarely had water sections for that reason!! I also remember you had to remove 26 screws to get at the airfilter .!!! – what a great design!!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CPTA have their last Trial of the season this coming Sunday – It’s called the Memorial Trial, and is sponsored by Mountain Motorcycles. Not sure if any of our locals are planning on going.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While we think most of the Motorcycle fraternity, are very environmental aware – this can’t be said of some other groups – we saw this last Sunday while out in one of our pristine locations ( the tire tracks told the story) yes it’s sickening, and very annoying. – Not that we are against enjoying a brew while out on a long day – but PLEASE always take your empties home with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not Trials – but a great shot of Darryl McCrae and Rick Botting battling it out on the Oval at the Olds AB fairgrounds. – I think I was there that day. – At that time, they were both partners in the shop Forest Lawn Cycle in Calgary. – They were both on Bultaco Astro bikes as I recall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I saw this posted and it reminded me that it was back in 1954 that an old school buddy showed up at our door with a Trials version of the BSA Bantam – It had a high mounted front mudguard and a few other special parts – Yes I was “Hooked”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we have mentioned – Babs and myself have been spending a lot of time watching the amazing world travels and exploits of Noraly or Itchy Boots via You Tube. – she really has produced a remarkable series, always interesting as she has spanned the globe. Now it’s more than likely that many of our readers have never heard of “John O’Groats” – but back before the Second World War – My Dad and Mum – travelled from John O’Groats to Lands-end in the UK – the longest journey possible in that country, and they did it on a Scott Flying Squirrel Motorcycle – the water-cooled wonder from that era – but with no rear suspension for Mum !! ( Wish I had a photo)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
