A few of days ago, we mentioned watching one of the UK Trials videos – which featured lots of mud etc – Well – we found another video of the same Trial, also very good, and very hard. – But I thought this would be a good one to watch for not only riders, but also for anybody who plans on setting up a trial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While back in my day, everybody rode the same sections-same line in the UK – these days we see various lines plotted for the degree of difficulty and ability of the riders – ie: Jr-Snr- Expert etc. – I should mention that setting up the perfect Trial has in my view never happened, mainly due to mistakes made by the chief planner, weather conditions changing, sections too long or too hard, etc. – The expression “Close but no cigar” springs to mind. ( This includes all the ones I’ve put on over the years including the FIM World Round)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyway, the Trial we watched, The Frank Jackson Trial, had 40 sections one loop which is quite normal for some UK Trials, and was also the way we usually set up our events in Alberta and the Okanagan. ( Remember our FIM back in 1975 was 69 miles long)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bottom line here, is that you want riders to enjoy themselves and want to continue riding, but this only works if the organizer gets things well planned ahead of time – rushing set up on a Saturday before a Trial Sunday rarely works out well. ( don’t forget what I said “Nobody” ever gets it all right!!) However – we are very lucky to have the keen people we have – so good luck to everybody for 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Below is a great pic of Sammy Miller this weekend attending the Telford Motorcycle Show – and sitting on his original Bultaco Sherpa T. – We found the letter below, while searching our files for something else and of course we were Sammy’s Canadian Importer for many years. – Ironically Sammy closed his business after 52 years, and we have now been in the Motorcycle business for 53 years ——( Including our time at Yamaha Canada)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
