( It was my 2nd Cross Country race &#8211; I rode it the previous year but seized my Bultaco soon after the start)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hi again Walter &#8211; Re that 73 Moose &#8211; it was a real gong show &#8211; I was on the line with Bob Sadownick and noticed my gas tap was leaking &#8211; so I dashed back to the camp grabbed some sealer and was working on the side of the bike while Bob held it up ( no side stand) then the shotgun went off and Bob let go my bike which fell on top of me &#8211; by the time I got going I was dead last!! &#8211; However not long after the start they had a big steep muddy hill and there were bikes everywhere, so I just rode to one side over fallen tree etc &#8211; passed about 50 &#8211;&nbsp; &#8211; then we came to a deep river crossing and all these idiots were just jumping in and being swept downstream &#8211; I rode up the bank until I saw a sandbar in the middle &#8211;&nbsp; got to that and downstream to the exit &#8211; passing a bunch on the bank (including Rudy Zasko) bikes upside down!!&nbsp; &#8211; they were still there when I went around on the 2nd 50 mile loop. -what a tough day that was. As you could see by my pic at the finish!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ah yes crazy times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below is top the start line with my Bultaco near camera on right side. 150 riders on the line.
