Answer to the last quiz – Paul Dunkley on the Sammy Miller Honda not surprisingly – nobody got that!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As mentioned we have a lot of Books on Trials, but if you are a 4 stroke fan, you would like the book “Four Stroke Finale” by Tommy Sandham and John Dickinson. – It’s a fascinating history of how the Japanese Factory developed their machines – Of course signing Sammy Miller was a real winner, as nobody knew better than Miller about four-stroke Trials bikes. it’s easy ( at least for me having worked for the Japanese) to see how frustrating it must have been for Sammy – as he says – it took 12 weeks to build the Bultaco Sherpa T – but it was two years with Honda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Trials bikes have seen quite a few updates over the years, it’s perhaps interesting to look back at some of the quite revolutionary designs from the 1930’s when Britain was the leader in the industry. Not that this is Trials, but while many of the younger folk might think it was the Japanese or Italians who invented 4 cylinder engines, take a look at this 1936 AJS – not only brilliant, but very reliable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was at the Scottish in 1992 a VERY wet week – I remember standing on the right side near the checker !!! Likely have pics from that spot. ( Just as well Walt had his Motorcycle rain gear!!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
