Answer to the last Quiz – Eric Adcock – a DOT factory rider not often seen driving a sidecar outfit – Peter from OZ got it – likely because he is an old “Pat” like me. – Adcock used to ride quite a lot of the events I went to in the Cheshire Center and often won – I never did get to talk to him, but he always seemed to have a bit of an “attitude” – He died last year. – I do remember being at one steep slippery section and saw him get up no problem, so running back to my bike ( James 197) I hit this hard, only to spin out and come tumbling back down!! – Of course back then, the factory riders always had new tires on their bikes which were brought in by van or trailer – the rest of us club lads usually rode our bikes to the events – sometimes as far as 50 miles one way!! no wonder we had trouble getting grip!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One thing we have noticed for some time now, is the absence of many junior riders in Competitions – as an example, there appeared to be only two junior riders at each of the events last weekend in Victory and Ioco. – Maybe it’s time for clubs to take a closer look at this class and find a solution to the problem ( although I know the CPTA are doing their best by hosting junior events0 – We are not sure what the answer is, but the high cost of bikes, and what people see as so called “Trials” on You Tube etc – might well be a factor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have posted some stories on the various front forks built and tested back in the 1950-1960 era especially for “Scrambling” here is one such version on a Rickman Bultaco – but the travel looks a bit limited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I thought of using this as a quiz question – but unlikely any of our bloggers would guess it – This is road race champ John Cooper trying his hand at a local scramble!! – I think this was called a ‘”flying W” style. – Yes I’m sure a lot of us have had similar experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here is a pic of the Expert start at the Red Water Alberta Grand Prix – back in I think 1976. – the guy in front is the late great Eddie MacDonald from Edmonton on a Can Am- I’m the rider directly behind him coming over the jump after the start. I was on the special Walt Healy Yamaha YZ 250 – This event turned out to be a fiasco as the new organizers somehow managed to get the junior riders coming in the opposite direction on the loop, – the result was a number of head on crashes. – Bob Sadownick was the worst, ending up with a leg broken in 7 places – I got hit head on and ended up with a broken collar bone – the local hospital staff were going crazy calling for the race to be stopped, as the bodies kept arriving. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As I’ve mentioned before – Cross Country racing in the 1970’s was quite the challenge, lots of mistakes made in the flagging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
