Lots going on this weekend – Erzberg Hard Enduro with what looks like wet conditions ( We wish Trystan Hart luck) – also more TT practice before racing gets going on Monday. – there is a World Trial in Corsica with Jack Peace grabbing 2nd on day one behind you know who!!! – Harry Hemingway topped the Trial 2 class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Birthday greetings today to Jay Colley and Harry McKay’s daughter Chloe who turns 18 !!! Hard to believe Harry has a girl that age. – Cody Webb will also be celebrating his birthday at Erzberg!!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course the big story in Canada, is the out of control forest fires burning in the Prairie Provinces and a stark reminder to be super careful if you are out in the bush this weekend. ( Yes we have spark Arrestors for sale)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday we posted some info on Bultaco and how they were very successful in Trials, winning the World Trials Championship many times. ( They also won a MX title with Jim Pomeroy) -It’s incredible to think how some factories are on top for a few years – then go bust for one reason or another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n =====================================<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is Darryl Copithorne who lives in Australia now, but was from Alberta before he emigrated – He is obviously having some pretty serious issues, so we wish him well – Darryl was one of the organizers of the Canadian World Trial in Alberta in 1979. ( Four years after that first one we did)<\/p>\n\n\n\n Here\u2019s a bit of context to the post that Darryl<\/a> made this morning .<\/p>\n\n\n\n For those who are wondering what the hell he\u2019s done now, here\u2019s the story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n After months of planning the boys started off on their trip on Monday, May 12, to ride from Mt Isa across to Broome and back. After a few days riding deep rutted sand tracks they pulled into Alice Springs for new tires and a day of rest. Darryl was feeling poorly and had a migraine so they took <\/a>an extra day for him to recover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Saturday morning he thought he was well enough to continue so they headed west again. However, Darryl only made it a 100 km or so before pulling the pin and heading back to Alice Springs alone while Derek and Graham carried on. He made it back to Alice (barely) and booked into a cabin at the caravan park overnight to rest up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sunday morning he called me, was feeling very unwell so I told him to hang up and call an ambulance. He was admitted to hospital with what they thought was pneumonia and started antibiotic treatment. Further testing showed he had actually had a heart attack several days earlier. So he had been riding over tough desert tracks while having a heart attack. The staff in the Alice Springs hospital started calling him \u201cthe heart attack on wheels\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He was med-flighted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital on Monday morning where they planned to do an angiogram and insert stents on Tuesday. But it was found the blockages were too extensive so told him he\u2019d require heart bypass surgery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Had to spend a few more days on antibiotics to get the lung infection cleared up before he could have surgery. Transferred over to the Calvary Adelaide private hospital on Friday, May 23 and surgery was planned for Tuesday the 27th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A fantastic young surgeon, Jason Varzaly, did the triple bypass surgery Tuesday and was very pleased with the outcome. Told Darryl he\u2019d feel better than he had in years once he recovered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So, Saturday the 31st now, he\u2019s still in ICU but making steady improvement. Not sure exactly when he can be discharged, but we\u2019re both really looking forward to getting back home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Have to give massive thanks to wonderful friends, Rosie, Gord and Donna Lalonde. With a couple of phone calls they arranged for people in Alice Springs to pick up his bike and gear, store it until after the Finke race, and then will get it shipped back to us.
