Forgot to mention yesterday that our buddy Martin Lucas had a birthday !! Not sure how old he is but I’m sure Julie will let us know – We do know that their Annual “Duff & Dabs” Trial will be going ahead on (or near) the Thanksgiving long weekend -.(Fantastic location) – Here is Martin on the TRS that Julie bought him for his birthday a few years ago!! I wonder what he got this year?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Answer to the last quiz – Claude Coutard – father of Charles – known back on the World Trials scene as “Charlie Custard” – Brett, Stan, and Pete all got it – Of course as Stan pointed out a clue was that his name was on the front number plate of the Greeves!!! (Doh)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another water splash section – not so deep, but coming after a steep drop and on my Ex Terry Porter- Bultaco at our 1971 first Long distance Trial in Alberta – this was the last section (#30) by which time the Spanish brakes were useless and yes the rocks were slippery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although these days, most Trials in Western Canada don’t seem to feature much in the way of water or creek sections – as we “grew up” riding these, we always enjoyed the challenge. – Naturally if you plan on ever riding the Scottish, you would be wise to practice these.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Below is another “water” section in the 2nd long distance trial we held in Alberta back in 1971 – although I managed to win this one, it ended badly as I had a big fall coming down from the last section, and broke my leg – which put me out for most of the year – did I mention that the Spanish brakes did not like water?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Obviously as our bloggers will understand, with the weather being so hot lately, we have not got a lot to report, so I thought I would post some of these old pics of Alberta Trials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another feature of early 70’s Alberta trials – were steep climbs – and I do mean steep – this is one of me on my 325 Bultaco Sherpa T in 1973 – you can see by the small figures at the bottom just how steep this was and full of rocks – typical Scottish style section!! – John Whitby took this great shot. – I loved that bike and looking back it would have been nice to have kept it – but I went to work for Yamaha Canada soon after, and another story began. ( Note it was not until 1975 that crash helmets became mandatory)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
