Scott Trial day

Well as I try to post this early in the morning – the famous Scott Trial will be well under-way in Yorkshire England.

Often called the “Greatest one day Trial in the World” this Time and Observation event has certainly earned a name for itself over the years.

We started a similar event in Alberta back in 1972 – mainly because I saw it to be a way of getting all the various competition groups ie: MX – Flattrack – Bush riding – and Trials – all together at one event out in the Forestry area near Calgary. Obviously we modified this to attract riders from all these sports. but the end result, was that it was a huge success and was held for many years – in fact until we moved to the Okanagan area of BC.

What it really did, was get the guys all talking at our weekly club meetings out at Chestermere Lake – it brought a new awareness and respect for all branches of the sport. – Possibly the biggest shock to the racers – was just how quick Trials riders could go in the bush!!

In this event – riders start at one minute intervals and follow a designated route over difficult terrain while also navigating the various Trials sections In the REAL Scott – the route is approx 80 miles and it has approx 80 observed sections. – In our Alberta Trials – we had around a ten mile loop with ten observed sections.

The first rider back sets “Standard Time” after which all other riders lose one point per minute. These scores are then added to the points lost in the observed sections, with the overall winner being the rider with the lowest score.

Hopefully this short explanation will be interesting to our readers.
