Well after making a quick trip to Ace Courier yesterday to ship Opti Oil – I got home in time to watch the last couple of periods of the Junior World Hocky Junior game – Not that I’m a Hocky fan, but at this level it is pretty intense and all the different Countries involved. As most will know, Canada got knocked out of the medal round when the Czechs scored just before the end of the game.

Yes Team USA won this Gold Medal game, which the experts had predicted.

The quiz yesterday showed a pic of a Bultaco Alpina model – a great idea of putting a long seat on a Trials bike. (Followed later by Beta with the Alp – and more recently TRS with the Xtrack) – The models also had a raised MX style front fender and knobby tires.

I remember that Calgary Motorcycle Club President Ron Mallett , bought one and brought it out to McLean Creek where we were camped for a weekend Trial. – After taking a look at it, Ron suggested that I take it for a ride – it featured a closer gear ratio box as well, suited more for enduro riding.

After riding it around a bit I headed back up the quite steep slope to the camp area, pulling a wheelie at the top!! Unfortunately – whoever put the bike together, had neglected to tighten the throttle screws properly and as I pulled the front end up – the throttle assembly came off in my right hand – !!! As you can imagine this came as a big surprise, and a rather undignified end to the ride!!!! with me and the Alpina laying in a heap. – I’m sure Ron’s face would have been a picture that day.

We had another local buy one to ride in Trials – his name was Bruce ONeal, and a real character – while not a great rider – he somehow inherited the name “Sammy ONeal”

Here is a pic of a young lady out for an Alpine ride in Europe on one of the great Xtrack models from TRS

Quiz today – a more difficult one after the easy New Year’s pic. quite a few got the Alpina – Brett & Harlow ( of course) Pete Varey, Neil Carter, Steve ORorke (USA) and a couple others – John from the UK.

How many of this group can you name??? Yes it was taken at the famous Outlaw Trial at Scotch Creek .BC so not easy for the Eastern guys. ( But they should recognize one !!)
