Tuesday July 9th/24.

As many may have noticed, our land line was not working yesterday – it was a new customer from Invermere who let us know about this .

This proved to be very frustrating as the Telus help line really doesn’t help at all – just repeats stuff without any answers. – It wasn’t until our son in law stopped by later and managed to contact a real live person that things got sorted – but even this took about two hours. Seems they had quite a few areas in Vernon with the problem, but of course nobody notified us.

Yesterday we posted the sad news that the great Gordon Jackson had died – we were never lucky enough to meet him or see him ride, but this famous photo taken by Peter Howdle for Motorcycling Magazine back in 1961. shows Jackson about to take his only “DAB” at the Scottish Six Day Trial of that year. A truly amazing performance and not matched until a few years ago, by Dougie Lampkin – However, when you consider that Gordon’s Factory AJS weighed a ton compared to the modern lightweight that Lampkin was on. There really is no comparison.

The historic score was marked down by the Observer seen with the cap just to the left (in the pic) – This lad David Johnson, later moved to Canada and we got to know him quite well , as he had a small bike shop in Calgary selling Montesa Trials bikes. ( We lost touch years ago)

Below is a poster put out by the factory at that time – this AJS is now on display at the Sammy Miller museum.
