Answer to the Monday quiz – Pete Smith on his Bultaco at an Alberta trial. Brett, Bob, Harlow and Pete Varey got it.

Interesting that Pete phoned me Sunday after not being in contact for many years. – He was a very good Trials rider on both two and three wheels (in the UK) – As a brilliant engineer, Pete built very special sidecar outfits at his shop in Kamloops for many years.

Pete lived in Vancouver for a long time, but travelled to the Alberta Trials quite often, always winning on his 325 Sherpa T, – However later he contested the National Trial held in that Province, on a bored out Allied Motorcycle sponsored Honda TL 125 – yes he won that day as well. – We later found out that our old friend Peter Brown ended up with that bike.

Quiz today Guess who – ( pic by Deryk Wylde)

Most Trials fans know that Bultaco also built very successful MX and Flat Trackers plus road race bikes, as well leading the World in Trials Championships – but did you know they also took a World speed record with this special?? – It was an absolute shame that Spanish politics regarding any downsizing of Factory staff forced them and Ossa to close down. – Fortunately, the new big upsurge in Vintage Trials in Europe sees a lot of the Bultaco Sherpa T’s being updated and doing well

Yes it’s a long time since we held the first ever Long distance trial in Alberta, and I snuck the win on Terry’s old Bultaco – ( Note the high fender – mainly because of the Muskeg swamps in the area)

And as its the end of an ISDE week in Spain – a flashback to the 1983 event in Wales a very proud moment for myself walking in (far right) at the Sunday Presentation.

I take my hat off to anybody that spends their own money in order to represent their Country in Motorcycle sport.
