Here is a pic from the old days – it appears these Trials riders are lining up for the special test, which was how tie-breaks were sorted back when I first started riding events. – These would often be taken at the start of a hill, when the rider was told to push off from a standing start with a dead engine then coast as fast as they could until they stopped on a line farther down – this was all timed and the scores filed for later results. You can imagine how well this worked if you had just been through a tricky mud section. But nobody complained.
Yesterday we showed a pic of the late Johnny Draper on a BSA Bantam in a Scramble – Well today we have a pic of his Sister Irene Draper riding a Bantam in a Trial – Irene married World MX Champion and Trials Expert – Jeff Smith.

Yesterday I watched a recent Trials video on You Tube which showed a typical British – dare I say “Old Fashioned” Trial, which featured lots of muddy climbs. – What the viewer might find interesting, is seeing the lower class riders slipping and sliding with feet all over the place and often ending up with a “Five” – then later you see one of the good experts like Dan Thorpe, who rides the toughest line like a main road – now THAT is impressive ( Not seeing who has the biggest Gonads to throw themselves at a 12 ft wall) – It’s called “Throttle Control”
