This pic just popped up on FB – it shows our old friend Peter Brown in Summerland – It was early April and as usual, I had dragged Pete along to check out one of our Outlaw loops. – We often had to blast through some big snow drifts on these – up high on the mountain, and it was a challenge -but Pete, never complained.
It was perhaps because we had the enthusiasm to explore and host events with long loops, that the Outlaw Trial at Summerland was so popular for some 20 years. – and believe me, there is nothing better after a long winter, than getting out in this type of terrain – we stopped a lot to rest and just take in the smell and silence of the Countryside. – We will always miss these times we had with Pete.

below is a pic of myself installing a small plaque of Pete of one of the great sections we spent many hours grooming at Summerland. – (not many know where this great section is)

These days, and quite a few years later – we ride with Roy a lot over on the Westside – and just as we did with Pete – we stop to smell the roses – which in my book is what getting out on a Sunday ride is all about. The Trials bikes are so quiet that the deer we see out in the woods seldom take much notice . As I have said before a great tonic for anybody and especially old guys.

We have said many times, in our opinion the best and most popular Trials events, are the long loop type, – a lot of these still being held in the UK and also now promoted in the USA by Lewisport plus the Ute Cup has always been well attended. The most famous Trial in the World is still the Scottish Six Days – it’s been going on now for over 100 years.

Footnote! The first World Trial in Canada back in 1975 was held in the Foothills of Alberta, a 69 mile loop. – and yes it took a lot of work, but former 3 time world Trials Champ Yrjo Vesterinen, still says that was the best Trial he rode in Canada.
