Answer to the last quiz – George Fisher on the Francis Barnett – Fisher was one of the first to campaign the small Villiers powered two stroke lightweights at a time when the big bore British thumpers ruled.

Harlow and Peter from Oz got this one.

Quiz today – Guess Who? and what section? – Hint ! -I took the photograph, with a 35mm Pentax.

Coming soon – Should be a great Trial and a chance to see the new 2026 TRS in action. – Would be nice if I could be there ! But!!! Old age does not come alone. – so not likely.

Although there are probably a lot of things that old folk reminisce about – as a long time Motorcycle enthusiast, I am just glad I was able to see and to even ride in the same events as some super stars – There is no doubt that the 1950’s saw fantastic break throughs in design, and I was lucky enough to witness that – yes I rode in one same event as the great Sammy Miller ( The Lomax National Trial) and also the Picton Time Trial which was won by World Road Race Champion Geoff Duke. Then later as I have already reported – I followed the great Jeff Smith off the line at the 1976 Moose Mountain Cross Country – that was more luck than good judgement – but it did end well with a 3rd place Open Class for that two day event. ( 173 started – If in doubt follow a World champ!!!)

Below are a couple of shots from the 1957 TT in the Isle of man – I was there to watch the great Bob McIntire post the first ever 100MPH lap, and also witness the fantastic V8 Moto Guzzi bikes. – That week we also witnessed Sammy Miller make a fantastic double pass on Carlo Ubialli, and Tarquinio Provini in the lightweight race but had his bike seize at Governor’s Bridge on the last lap – Sammy pushed the bike down the road to grab 4th place, looking very knackered. – He gave up road racing soon after and focused on Trials.

They say Old Age “aint for sissies” – but what great memories .

Nice to see some “Old Fashioned’ type events still taking place – it’s all about getting out and “Smelling the roses’)
