Answer to the last quiz – John Reynolds on Pipeline (Ossa) – and the red/yellow suits seen being worn by the riders, were made by Len Thwaites – (TT leathers) – As mentioned I had one of these which were very good, water proof with the pants fitting over the boots ( mostly rubber back then) – As usual, Brett was hot on the clicker, followed by Bob, Harlow and John Kitchener from the UK.
Quiz today – Guess who? likely one of the best “All Rounders” in the sport – he tried everything- Trials. Enduro, ISDE, Scrambles, Speedway and Road racing. –

I watched this You Tube video which reminded me of how the entry system works in the UK for events such as this – If the riders know the area and have ridden that before – they will know whether it is a bad idea to be first through the sections – ( check out the video to see what I mean) – The same applies to the Scottish Six Day Trial where the entry gets reversed through the week, so that everybody has an early ( usually crappy) day, when everything is slick.
As the entries are mailed in ( in the old days – now digital) picking the best time to enter can make the difference of having a good or bad day.
Another point that perhaps newbies to the sport don’t realize, is the reason for the long loop – if you have a large entry – often over 100 riders (even in my day) you need to have them spread out to avoid congestion and delays. ( Don’t forget the riders do around 100 MILES per day in the Scottish) – Of course they always use Observers (checkers) at Euro Trials. – Just imagine sitting out on a windy/rainy day in some wild spot all day – just to support your club.
Although the video clips we see on You Tube these days of events are very welcome -I find them a bit “amateurish” – when compared to the old VHS Tapes we used to get by Duke Video – The late Dale Malasak also made some good ones.
Here is a pic of the box I tried to give away at one of our Trials last year – All great viewing and not cheap . Some of those on the left are ones I made. ( I have lots more)
