As I was typing this date – It suddenly hit me that this date had something to do with “Macbeth'” – Beware the Ides of March !!” – memories from Shakespeare and school days . – Maybe some of our bloggers can enlighten us on this.

Answer to the last quiz #1 – Johnny Giles – the Triumph Factory rider who as Neil Carter informed us, competed so successfully with only one eye. – Yes only Neil and Bob Clark got this one in the first round – Quiz #2 also caused some trouble – It was Mike Hailwood looking over Formula one – Stirling Moss – perhaps the greatest driver never to have won the World Championship. – Moss could have won when driving for Mercedes, but his co driver the great Manual Fangio had car trouble, so Moss sportingly let him take over his car. Fangio therefore won the Championship.
We saw Stirling drive at Oulton Park in both an E-type Jaguar when they came out and took the world sportscar market by storm – Carrol Shelby was at that race in a big US Rocket – he led Moss off the start but then the big Chevvy just went wide and the Jags went – 1-2-3 on the inside. – I also saw Moss drive a four wheel drive Fergusson at Oulton – and yes he won – but then that project went into oblivion.
As some might recall Stirling had a bad crash which he was lucky to survive and retired – but lived to be 90 years old – not many Formula One Drivers did that – so I guess he finished top of the heap anyway.
Most of our bloggers will know about Mike Hailwood – – I saw him race at Aintree near Liverpool – maybe his first UK race – he was on an Italian Patton – back then he was not that popular around the “Paddock” as it was thought his wealthy Dad bought him the best bikes, but Mike proved them all wrong, as he became a very famous World Champion and the only man to make a “Come-back” to the Isle of Man TT after 13 years – and win. – Sadly Mike was killed along with his young daughter when a drunk driver crashed into his Jaguar while he was going to pick up Fish & chips. – An unbelievable tragedy.
A few of our regular bloggers got this – including Peter from OZ and David Brooks – Thanks to all for clicking on.

Here is an interesting old pic – not sure who took it of me on the 74 TY 250 – What really stuck out in looking at this – is the high bars which of course were in vogue at that time – also I noticed that I have at least two fingers on the clutch ! (Ha Ha) I didn’t think I learned that until Steve Day told me about that in 1985. – (psst – Did you know that I won the first ever Trial for Yamaha in Alberta??)
