Well I have to say a big thanks to all of you bloggers, who posted wishing Babs and myself a Happy anniversary – I never thought 63 years would go so fast!!!
As I recall, I had taken a break from competition when I met Babs, at a Saturday night dance. – It was a St Patrick’s Day Dance – so I guess the luck of the Irish was with me that that night. At that time I didn’t have a motorcycle, but I soon bought a couple of Norton’s – and after we got married we made that very long 3,000 mile trip to the Adriatic Coast of Italy. ( Not many people did that back then)
Of course Babsy has had to put up with Motorcycles taking up a lot of my time, but I think she also enjoyed the early years especially the weekend campouts at Trials or Cross Country races. Most of this was in Alberta, where we had quite a large group of friends meeting up each weekend, campfires and sing-a longs with lots of kids around.
– At our family dinner at the weekend – Babs once again told the story of how I first (and last) time I tried to teach her how to ride my Sherpa T Trials bike !! Yes it was a disaster!!.
During my time working for Yamaha, Babs was able to go with me on quite a few trips. including to Japan – as you can imagine – she made quite the impression at the night clubs we visited as she was ‘Blonde’ at that time and was taller than most Japanese on the dancefloor.
Because we lived in Wales during those early years, we were always singing and this has always been something very special – we quite often sang together at parties including this one at a Welsh pub back in 1995 when we were over in the UK. ( first time this pic has been seen by most- and yes we were pretty good, as are most Welsh people)
Babs has become a friend and mother figure to lots of riders over the years – here she is with Katie and Emily.
Yes 63 years went by much quicker than I thought. – Babs or Mrs Outlaw is still the one who keeps me and this site going.
