Well it seems that young Harry Hemingway got 2nd overall in the grueling 2023 Scott Trial in Yorkshire – The young Beta rider was first listed in 4th – but a recount moved him up to 2nd ., dropping Billy Green down to 3rd – not that Billy will be sad at this placing, as his Scorpa ran out of gas just a long push from the finish.
This reminded me of a similar experience by Sammy Miller back in 1957 at the TT – Sammy was leading the 250 Lightweight race going into the last bend at Govner’s Bridge on the very last lap, when the tranny seized – making for a long push down to the finish line.
Of course Motorcycle sport is all about winners and losers – who remembers the famous TV intro to Wide World of Sports ? “The Thrill of Victory and the agony of defeat”
