The Quiz today is a tricky one – What is significant about this pic -hint it’s not the rider.
Below you see another Ariel – this being the revolutionary for it’s time Ariel Arrow – A two stroke twin in a pressed metal frame with quite a futuristic appearance. One of the Photographers who worked at the same Newspaper Company as myself, had one of these “Rockets” – so I asked him if I could take it for a ride !! – Now being a bit of a young hot head who was super keen on taking up Road Racing – I took it up around some local narrow roads – which then came down a steep hill back into town – I now had the bike pinned !! when all of a sudden, a wood pigeon flew over the hedge and hit me in the face!! I still wonder how I kept control of the bike and was thankful I was wearing goggles, but only an open face helmet. – And that was the only time I ever rode one -( The owner did ask me about all the feathers stuck to the bike) – a guy by the name of Peter Inchly raced a souped up model in the Isle of Man TT – I don’t recall where he finished. ( Yes I had a large bruise on my face)
Well we have everything loaded today for a trip to Summerland – our first this year. We will pick up Mike Philipps on route as he has never been there – the plan is to show him the old Outlaw loop – I am taking the TRS estart fitted with the Xtrack kit and will take some pics as it looks to be a great day – Katie would have joined us, but is down East visiting her folks and taking a well deserved break from riding.
