Answer to the last quiz – Alan (Syd) Lampkin better known as one of the famous Yorkshire family. – Although his elder brother Arthur was the best ” Scrambler” in the family – they all did this, as well as the popular Trials riding. – Alan was in fact the last rider to win the Scottish Six days Trial, on a British Four Stroke – a BSA 250.
The first Correct answer came from Harlow. – Brett emailed “Lampkin” but did not say which one.
Quiz today. Guess who? Another Trials rider maybe?

Yesterday we got a phone call from Bill Petro, the famous Canadian Photographer – this came as a big surprise as we have never met. – Bill is in the process of putting together a book on Canadian MX together with Carl Bastedo, and was asking about any old photographs I might have. – I’m afraid I wasn’t much help in this regard, but we did have a very long and interesting chat.

As some of our old bloggers might know, before I got involved in the Motorcycle Industry in 1973, I worked in the Graphic Arts or to be Precise was a Photo-Engraver by Trade, before moving to Canada and eventually going into sales.
As a side line back in the UK, I took up regular photography – taking Photos at Motorcycle events, although rather surprisingly, the first Photo-Article I got published was on Gliding – this happened when I went up in an open air glider, flown by a 16 year old ATC cadet!!!
( I wish I still had that article – That really left an impression)

While looking for something else, I came across this old Magazine, which is full of great articles but sadly as often happens, the Publication went out of business. ( Hard to survive even back a few years – now of course everything is digital.)

Also yesterday I had another pleasant surprise, watching John Lampkin on the Trials Tube Podcast – posted on You Tube – again it was great to see the way Danny Butler put this together, so that’s Kudus on two videos. – For those that don’t know – John Lampkin (on the right) was a former World Round rider, but got injured in a car crash. – He then became the Beta Importer for the UK. – Stan Bakgaard knows John very well and has stayed with him while in the UK and riding the Scottish.
Another bit of info for those that don’t know – it was John Boy who got the Beta factory to build the Evo 200, as he thought the modern 300cc bikes were all too powerful for Club riders. ( still are) – UK Trials are well known for being very slippery!! – That is Jack Dance in the middle.

If you go on You Tube – you will also see a post by the Hemmo bros- test riding the new 2026 Beta Sincro, with Harry explaining some (but not all) the new updates. – Amazing to see what these lads can do on a very wet day. – Hard Enduro Champ Billy Bolt was also out for some practice on a Trials bike.

As mentioned – our good Scottish buddy, Harry McKay is on holiday Stateside, and is taking time this weekend to ride the Lewisport Trial – Here is a great shot of Harry and his son Calum before the start.
