Yesterday we clicked onto Itchy Boots and her latest video arriving in Japan on the Yamaha – We find all these videos fantastic to watch, and this last one may be a bit special – we wonder if she will get to visit the Yamaha Factory ? If she does, they should give her the Royal treatment for her 2 yr trek around the World on that specially built Tenere 600..

It reminded me of my last visit to the Factory in 1982 -Here is a pic showing the Canadian Dealers on that trip, I got to take Babs that year, she is on the 2nd row extreme left side (Blonde) – I’m on the other right side ( in Yamaha suit) I wonder how many of those people are still around? ( I see Keith Simmons in the 2nd row center- Keith was the parts manager at Yamaha in Vancouver and managed to “Find” us some Yamaha shirts for our 83 ISDE Team .

Here is another Yamaha memory from one of our newsletters which we used to mail out, before the age of computers. – ( from 2005) –

Although we are heading into winter, we always did a lot of snow riding in our younger years – although some of our snow riding was done at high elevation in August!! ( Joss Mountain)

This pic shows me out for the first time on the brand new 1999 Bultaco – in January at East Kelowna. However, we always found the Beta to work the best in the snow – lots of torque and able to pull a high gear. – I remember the time Stan came with us up Joss and we ran into heavy snow – he asked me what gear I was pulling – I told him 4th – but I also knew that the Sherco ( that he was on) was the worst ever bike I rode for getting traction in snow. –
Can you imagine the fun we had riding that first ever West Canadian Championship Trial back in 1971 when we had 2ft of snow overnight and shit tires????

It was in snow that I rode my first ever Trial in Canada – can’t remember too much about the event at Blackfoot Park in 1971, but I’m guessing traction on that Greeves was a bit sketchy.

The one thing that snow riding does for the rider, is it teaches throttle control – the rider who has this at a poor weather event will always get a good result.
