Answer to the last quiz – Brian Povey on the “works” James section is Devils Staircase in the Scottish – – Neil Carter was quickly in with the correct answer except he got the wrong section. – Brett was then top of the box. Later Peter from Oz got it and mentioned it was raining “Down under”
Old codgers will recall that This 197 James ( Likely bored out to 201 to compete for the 250 cup) – was actually the “Cotswold” Scramble model as the Trials bike at that time had a rigid rear frame -it also had the new 4 speed transmission. – We know all this, because that was the bike we competed on in Trials, Scrambles and rode to work every day!! – It was actually Royal Enfield who introduced the “Swing-Arm” rear suspension, and after that everybody switched to that. ( a bit like what happened when Yamaha brought out the Mono-shock in 1974 and blew everybody away in MX. – Plus of course Mick had a Factory Trials version on which he won the Scottish)
Below is a pic of me on that first James – fitted with a spare tank for competition to save the nice new one for selling the bike later. This is also the pic on the Outlaw Plaque an event which has now been held since 1986. ( We did not have the Plaque for the early Trial as we had no plans for this to become an annual event)

Quiz today – Guess who this rider is. and what bike?

This is a map of the Trial happening today in my old stomping ground – Babs actually lived in the village of Nantmawr ( Yes that’s Welsh) and I used to practice near the quarry where this event will take place ( I see they now have a Nature reserve in the area)

Just had a message from an old trials buddy in Oswestry – says it’s raining there!! – Well I was just looking out the window and I see rain and sleet coming down, so have cancelled the ride for today ( Not a youngster anymore)
