Saturday April 19th/25

Well! we hope you are all enjoying the Easter long Weekend – I was working in the shop yesterday afternoon when the phone rang. – It turned out this was David Johnston – the Observer at the 1961 Scottish Six Day Trial who marked down the one and only “Dab” that Gordon Jackson AJS took that memorable week.

We have not heard from David for probably 30 years, so this did come as a surprise – However ! It was soon apparent that David who is now 80 yrs old – is in poor health and unable to carry on a normal conversation, because of memory issues – he asked me numerous times, how old I was. Anyway, we do have his Alberta ph number if anybody wants to call him – just email us.

Below is the mention of David in the 100 year SSDT Program.

Things have changed a bit since I first rode the Lomax Cup in the 1950’s -all we got was a route card and certainly no breakfast treats. However one thing that hasn’t changed, is the long loop and believe me I can still remember how tough it was back then.

BTW this yearly event is in Wales – but I see they still use “Heartbreak Hill” – I know I “fived one sub on that. ( some of that stuff on the menu is Welsh!!)

I see that some of the Alberta lads have arrived in the Valley – nice to see this new enthusiasm from the Red Deer area –
