As expected, we got no correct answers to the last blog – it was a pic of Ben Hircock Snr, supplied by Roger Boothroyd – who told us that Ben was a great all round competition rider back in the day, but both he and his wife were tragically killed in a house fire.
We did know Ben Junior, as he was also a good trials rider, who often joined the Stan Bakgaard shows around BC. . – Roger is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to anything regarding the Victoria club.

More Beta Evo 200 memories and a bit of propaganda!! – We have had at least one Evo 200 as a demo, ever since they came on the market. – (I can’t remember when that was but it has to be about 15 years ago at least)
Did you know, that Beta are a family run business dating back to early 1900’s? – and did you know that KTM tried to buy them, but were turned down ? (thank goodness for that)

Below is with Andrew Christianson, up at the top of Silver Star Mountain, when we were looking at hosting a national trial there. – We rode UP the mountain bike loop – it was a great idea, but in the end I had to cancel because the weekend had just too much other stuff going on. – Andrew and his team put on a few really good Enduro style weekends up on the Vernon Mountain, before the locals shut them down.
Below a pic from a trip up above Trout Lake (7,000ft) with Taff , Chris and Bruce Baker – The 200 worked well with no carb adjustments needed for the high elevation.
So to sum up this series on “lightweight” Trials bikes – Obviously they have always been competitive even back in the 1950’s – and now of course are very much more advanced, and perhaps the better choice for many riders, particularly new smaller stature customers. They are easier to ride, and even cost less money. – call us if you would like to hear more about them.
