It was quite the surprise to see this yesterday morning when I opened the drapes. – Of course it was all gone by the afternoon with some sunshine. Welcome to the OK Valley.

Answer to the last quiz – Famous Road Racer and World Champion – Geoff Duke – an unusual shot of him Scrambling a DOT – as he was a Norton Factory rider, before he joined the Italian Gillera Factory. A great all round rider, who competed in lots of Trials including the Scottish and also the Picton Time Trial near Chester when he passed me on the Prototype Ariel 250 Colt. ( He won)
Quiz today – Guess who?

As most of our bloggers know -We have been a Distributor for Opti Products since 1987 – and when we travelled we supplied dealers all over Western Canada – We still supply the product to a lot of these, but Manufacturers like to bad mouth anything that they do not supply themselves. – So if you have been told that your bike or sled etc will not get any warranty if you use Opti or Amsoil etc – show them this – That law suit cost them a lot of money.

The facts are, that not all oils are equal and not all oils can be mixed at a lean ratio – EG – Yamilube and some other 2 cycle oils need to be mixed at a ratio of 32-1- or 50-1 – BECAUSE they are an Injector oil. and these oils have a thinning agent added because they have to go through an injector pump. – The Opti Injector Oil is exactly the same and must be mixed at 32-1. -However! – Optimol 2 mix (Developed in Germany in 1920) is designed to run at a lean ratio of 100-1, and has been used by Team Canada in ISDE competition – Moto X and of course by most of our Trials riders, for decades. – The bottom line is read the label on the bottle, but also remember that Manufactures do not like paying for Warranty and will use any excuse to avoid this.
Another common question we have been asked over the years, is about the use of Synthetic Oils – and yes Opti 2 is Synthetic – but Opti 4 is NON Synthetic – We have heard of Trials riders having issues with Clutch slip and this has likely been caused by using a Synthetic oil. ( Both Honda and Kawasaki sent out a service bulletin to their dealers on this decades ago.
Of course we often read posts on facebook etc on this subject, many of which give Bike riders the wrong info. My advice is this – if in doubt about using Opti – give us a call. -We will tell you who your local dealer is.- We have used it in all our bikes since 1987, and do you really think we would recommend you use this in a $10,000 plus Motorcycle or sled? if it wasn’t the best??

Of course when we travelled all over western Canada, we had our box van full of Opti and in fact in the first year we were the distributer – we delivered 100 45 gallon drums of oil !! Yes each weighing 400 ILBs !! – I guess you could say that was the reason Honda and Yamaha came out with their own Oil Programs, which required the dealer to purchase the Oil they sold— ( Honda and Yamaha do NOT make their own oil)
Did you know that the Chevron corporation rented a large machine from the German Optimol Factory back in the day to test their own oil ( Optimol would only rent these super expensive units)
Anyway – This is a slippery subject and one we could likely post a few blogs on. – We are happy to chat about this or any other motorcycle stuff if you want to call us. ( Preferably dirt bikes)
