Below you will see the intro to the book by Don Smith – which I think sums up Trials very well, at least for me – Of course the thing that drives me crazy – is the Spanish always calling a Trial a “Race”.

We have always tried to promote trials as a family sport, in a way that the public or spectators can understand, and printed up programs for special events. – We started the Sammy Miller Trial in Alberta, which ran for quite a few years – but then I switched to racing Cross Country. – Later in BC the WTC event at Revelstoke was another great one – starting from the glacier Lodge it was a combination of an old style loop with easy access for spectators, via the fire road. – I should mention that in my opinion, regular club Trials are pretty boring for spectators -unless you understand the rules – perhaps that is why we now see all the Indoor events on You Tube – ( How do they do that?) – The fact that the Outlaw Trial at Summerland was so popular was I think because of the Family campfire scene and the long loop. We held it at Summerland for 25 years, after that Ross Rathbone took over at his Shuswap location.
You might recognize a lot of names – many of whom still compete locally.
