Answer to the last quiz – The fairings on the Road race bikes of the mid 1950’s were called “Dustbins” by the British Press. -( What the Brits call their Garbage Cans) – These were later banned by the FIM because they proved to be very dangerous in cross winds – especially at the TT.

We had quite a few correct guess’s for this. – Pete Varey got in first then Harlow and Bob – followed by Steve O’Rorke and Peter from OZ

Quiz today – Guess who? – ( A tough one)

=======================================

Last night, I clicked onto the You Tube video posted by Trystan Hart of the Hawaai Hard Enduro – This is very long (2 hours plus) and shot with a Go Pro – I really enjoyed it as it showed just how tough the event was, but also reminded me of the 1973 Moose Mountain Cross Country in Alberta ( Back when only a handful of riders ever finished) – Not by comparison but – I did send Walter my recollection of this event, as it was certainly a toughie. ( It was my 2nd Cross Country race – I rode it the previous year but seized my Bultaco soon after the start)

Hi again Walter – Re that 73 Moose – it was a real gong show – I was on the line with Bob Sadownick and noticed my gas tap was leaking – so I dashed back to the camp grabbed some sealer and was working on the side of the bike while Bob held it up ( no side stand) then the shotgun went off and Bob let go my bike which fell on top of me – by the time I got going I was dead last!! – However not long after the start they had a big steep muddy hill and there were bikes everywhere, so I just rode to one side over fallen tree etc – passed about 50 –  – then we came to a deep river crossing and all these idiots were just jumping in and being swept downstream – I rode up the bank until I saw a sandbar in the middle –  got to that and downstream to the exit – passing a bunch on the bank (including Rudy Zasko) bikes upside down!!  – they were still there when I went around on the 2nd 50 mile loop. -what a tough day that was. As you could see by my pic at the finish!!

Ah yes crazy times.

Below is top the start line with my Bultaco near camera on right side. 150 riders on the line. (that is Barb Sadownick in red (rip))

The finish – you can see just how knackered I was – but Babsy seemed happy!! – That is Bob Sadownick behind on a Bultaco Alpina – he finished ahead of me – ( I got 3rd Open bike 6th overall out of about 10 – 12 finishers) Wish we had Go Pro back then!!
