Mornin’ bloggers – welcome to the site!! – – I have been watching all the You tube videos, being posted by Noroly of Itchy Boots fame, and in today’s report, she has a front wheel flat while in Mongolia, luckily while in a small town, where she was able to get the tube patched. But does she really travel all over the World without carrying spare tubes???? Remember the pics of Scottish Six Day riders always had a spare tube hanging from their belt.
I notice she does have a Camel Back – and this reminded me of when we used to sell them across Western Canada for the Young Importer who had an outdoor rec business in Penticton. – We likely sold 100’s before the US company decided to cancel the Penticton lads and go direct. – Typical we found of the USA Companies once they had somebody build up the market for them. ( We had the same thing happen with O’Neal Clothing .)

We just received the latest issue of Motorcycle Mojo magazine and were pleasantly surprised to see a report by Emily on the TDN with both a nice write up and great photos. Good to see them cover some Trials activity – but they really do have some great articles on touring and other stuff. – Check it out it’s Canadian EH!

We just came across this old article from the National we put on at Postill Lake nr Kelowna – I remember it absolutely chucked it down while we were having the riders meeting, which made some of the steep rocky climbs challenging. -After getting all the riders away – I rode up the trail and stopped by the first section, which featured a long slippery steep flat rock climb- I was just in time to see Jimmy Corkle come over backwards on his 370 Aprilia – not the right bike for Jimmy. rip- Some interesting names there, including a young kid named Ryon Bell – We were not expecting any kids at the Trial, but as they had come all the way from the island – I had Barry take all these lads around making a different line acting as a shepherd!!! ( He never let me forget that)
As you can see by the scores I did not set up an easy trial but it was a Championship, and once again the weatherman was not my friend.

Another Blast from the past -( Pic by john Whitby) This is the old guy at a Calgary trial in 1971 held in the foothills of the Mountains West of Millarville – we had rain and snow that day, and although I ended up winning the Trial – I had a huge crash after riding the last section, the downhill was all mud and I ended up sliding off a very high bank down onto the forestry road with the bike landing on me. – As usual we were on a long loop, so I just rode the Bultaco out standing on one peg as my right leg did not feel good – suffice to say that yes it was broken with my knee also wrecked- – The funny bit to this story, is that I drove home with our homemade camper, then next morning drove to the Calgary hospital ( Babs could not drive back then) Of course the parking lot was full, so I began hopping towards the Emergency doors- luckily one of the staff saw me and got me into a wheelchair.
And that was me for three weeks – Surgery -then getting about with a cast on my leg for about three months.
And now you know – “The rest of the Story” And remember we only had 4ply tires then. – ( And no gloves)
